Have you ever noticed just how many metal buildings there are in use today? It’s no wonder, as metal buildings are wonderfully adaptable to so many uses. These structures first became popular during World War II for troop and equipment storage in the battlefield. Now they function as backyard garages and workshops, housing for small commercial and industrial operations and even as small airplane hangars. After World War II ended, many returning servicemen purchased the surplus buildings for their personal housing, so it is not hard to envision metal buildings as modern day guest cottages!
Several different metal building kit designs are available to meet your storage needs. The P series incorporates a traditional design of straight sidewalls and arched roof, providing optimal storage space by raising the arch to rest at the top of the sidewalls. They are great for use as a backyard garage or workshop and can be customized to match the exterior of your home. The A series employs the same design engineering as the P series, with the exception lying in its 4 to 12 pitch roof that offers protection against high wind and snow. This, too, works well as a garage or workshop.
The Q series is based on the Quonset hut design that proved so popular during World War II. Named for the town of Quonset, Rhode Island, the location of the naval base where the Navy Seabees designed and built the original hut kits, this style of metal building offers a rounded corrugated arch structure that is capable of resisting hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and heavy winds and precipitation. They contain 100 percent usable space as no beams or trusses are utilized in their construction and can be used for grain and crop storage, backyard workshops and small airplane hangars.
The S series metal building also provides 100 percent usable vertical and floor space with its high sidewalls and arched roof. It works great for small manufacturing, industrial and commercial uses as well as recreational vehicle storage and fire and airport fueling stations.
It’s easy to see why metal buildings are so popular. Versatile in function and appearance-and so easy to assemble-it would be well worth your while to consider a metal building for your storage needs.
